David Gordon Green’s ‘The Exorcist’ Reboot Suddenly Stops Production
Fatal Attraction was one of those films that buried itself so far in the zeitgeist that people who weren’t faithful or people who had significant others that were a little crazy were referred to as “Fatal Attraction”. The film was wildly popular and really showcased Glenn Close’s range as an actress. Now, Paramount+ is giving the film the remake treatment in a series format.
The new series stars Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson in the lead roles that Glenn Close and Michael Douglass played. Entertainment Weekly shared the first image from Paramount+’s production.
Caplan saw a lot more to the role of Alex. She saw that Close’s character was very much an ill person. Not someone who was just an evil person. So, it became important for Caplan to explore that for a more three-dimensional character.
“In the film, Alex is the villain of the story, and Dan is the hero and there is no gray area,” Caplan told Entertainment Weekly. “Now, audiences have changed so much, we are no longer primed to believe in this villainous woman story. She’s clearly mentally ill and that’s not something that is really touched upon at all in the movie.”
The synopsis for the original Fatal Attraction went like this:
For Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), life is good. He is on the rise at his New York law firm, is happily married to his wife, Beth (Anne Archer), and has a loving daughter. But, after a casual fling with a sultry book editor named Alex (Glenn Close), everything changes. Jilted by Dan, Alex becomes unstable, her behavior escalating from aggressive pursuit to obsessive stalking. Dan realizes that his main problem is not hiding his affair, but rather saving himself and his family.
It will be great to see what Caplan and Jackson do on screen and to see what that chemistry will be like. Caplan already proved herself above and beyond with her fantastic work on Castle Rock as Annie Wilkes. She took what Kath Bates and done with the character, paid homage to it, and then made it her own. I’m sure she will do great with the character of Alex.
Fatal Attraction is set to arrive on Paramount+ in early 2023.
